CFHS defeat Ronan, Whitefish while boys split games; four Mat Cats place at Missoula

Columbia Falls rallied from a 14-point deficit to earn a 46-43 varsity girls basketball victory over Whitefish on Saturday (Jan. 17) in Whitefish. The Wildkats eased past Ronan 53-31 on Friday. The wins move the Kats to 4-0 in the Northwestern A Conference.

In boys basketball, Columbia Falls posted a 65-42 win over Ronan on Friday, but lost to Whitefish 52-47 on Saturday. The Wildcats' conference record is 2-2.

Kelly Houle, Sal Baccaro, Justin Whitman and Travis Pete of Columbia Falls were place winners at the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic wrestling tournament last weekend in Missoula. Houle (189 pounds) placed third, and Baccaro (98), Whitman (105) and Pete (125) were eighth. The Mat Cats were outscored by Polson 42-30 in a Northwestern A Conference dual Thursday in Polson. Picking up wins by fall for the Mat Cats were Baccaro (98), John Woody (160), Will Joubert (171) and Houle (215). Winning by decision were Whitman (105) and Russell Plevel (145).
