Jr. Olympic hopefuls race at Big Mountain

| January 15, 2009 10:00 PM

The Whitefish Mountain Resort hosted the kick-off for the 2009 Northern Division Junior Olympic Qualifier Alpine Races this past weekend.

The three-day event featured more than 70 young skiers faced the challenging weather conditions and terrain on Saturday, but by Sunday, the weather and visibility conditions improved. The final races on Monday featured outstanding snow conditions and sunshine.

Local Whitefish Mountain Resort Race Team members made a very good showing, and Whitefish Mountain Resort alpine director Roy Loman says he expects great results as the season progresses.

The team will travel to Snow Bowl in Missoula for the next Junior Qualifier on Feb. 6-8. The junior members of the team will begin their competition season next weekend in Red Lodge. They will be competing to qualify for the J4 Festival that will be held concurrently with the Junior Olympics in Bogus Basin in March.
