Community cares about kids

| January 7, 2009 10:00 PM

Whitefish is a town known for its dedication to our children. In early December, a small group of individuals were concerned about the upcoming two-week school holiday and the extra burden that would be placed on Whitefish families who have come to rely on our school district’s breakfast and lunch program for their children during the school week.

The Whitefish Schools Holiday Snacks for Kids Project was the grassroots effort that grew out of this concern. In just 17 days, kids that might benefit from our “snack bags” were identified, money was raised, and 1,704 pounds of food was purchased, filling 213 holiday bags for kids in time for the school break.

A special thanks to the following organizations and individuals who have shown, time and again, their caring spirit for the children of Whitefish: Whitefish Rotarians, who delivered our snack bags, Whitefish Community Foundation, for their generous financial support, Whitefish PTA, Trieweiler Law firm, Glacier Wholesale, Buffalo Café, Jerry and Deb House, Carol Trieweiler, Diana Graham, Barb Mansfield, Nikki Carlson, Bob and Elspeth Chambers, Gaye Lockwood, Betsy Bayne, Melissa Yates, Mary Witbrod, Linda Chauner, Linda Hobbs, Thomas Inman and Dave Gawe.
