Hit and run

Hit and run

To the hit-and-run driver who crashed into the little red car parked on the street at 719 Columbia Avenue on Sunday night, Feb. 15, you know who you are. You know that you’ve done something wrong, and you know you got lucky by not killing yourself or anyone else this time.

What you don’t know is how you’ve affected the family who owns that car, or in what ways your action creates repercussions that affect an entire community and a world.

Please break this chain of events that you have begun with your incapacity and recklessness. The right thing to do is to come forward, take responsibility and pay the damages.

You are an honest person and you probably work hard and you do not want to live in a place where people can do what you are now doing.

If you lack the courage, make an anonymous reparation for the damages. The deductible on the family’s auto insurance is $500, but they or their insurance company shouldn’t have to pay for any of these repairs.

It’s sad that we have made a world where insurance is even necessary. Personal integrity, family and community are all the insurance we’ve ever needed.

Take responsibility for yourself and your actions, and we will do the same, and this will be a better place for us all. You have this power.

You can also do nothing and then understand why when someone carelessly and unfairly does injury to you or someone you love.
