C-Falls boys win Libby Invite; girls earn second

Senior Stephen Baumgartner took top honors in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and ran a leg on the winning 400 relay, leading Columbia Falls to the boys title in the Libby Invitational on Saturday.

The C-Falls girls had only one event-winner, Ketti Wilhelm, but the Wildkats used their quality depth to finish second behind Whitefish.

In the boys division, C-Falls scored 154 points — 40 more than runner-up Whitefish. Libby had 97 points, Eureka 60, Ronan/St. Ignatius 59, Troy 21, Noxon 10 and Clark Fork, Idaho, 7.

Baumgartner won the 100 with a time of 11.69 and was first in the 200 in 24.27. Baumgartner, Kaleb Johnson, Joel Ballard and Dean Phillips teamed for first in the 400 relay (44.42), winning by a second-and-a-half.

The quartet of Patric Jessat, Shawn Whitman, Derrick Williams and Johnson was first in the 1,600 relay (3:35.92).

Shawn Whitman was first in the 800 with a time of 2:11.43. Michael Kruse was second (2:14.44) and Tim Chopper third (2:16.63) to give the Wildcats a 1-2-3 finish. Teammate Pascal Jessat was fifth (2:20.26).

Williams took top honors in the 400 (53.90).

The Wildcats scored 19 points in the 1,600, an event won by Drew Cocco of Whitefish in 4:32.90. Patric Jessat was second (4:54.00), Justin Whitman third (4:54.11), Pascal Jessat fourth (5:03.94) and Chopper sixth (5:11.46).

Cocco also won the 3,200 in 10:13.4.

Ballard was second in the 100 (11.76), and Phillips placed sixth (12.24). Patric Jessat was third in the 200 (24.49).

Nate Thompson and Kyle Howell fared well in field events. Thompson was second in the triple jump (40-4 1/4) and third in the javelin (145-3). Howell placed third in the triple jump (40-4) and fourth in the high jump (5-10).

In the discus, Justin Livingston was fourth (127-5) and Mike Macijunas sixth (117-4 1/2). Matt Hollo placed fourth in the pole vault (10-0).

THE C-FALLS girls scored 112 points, finishing behind champion Whitefish. The Bulldogs totaled 143 points. Ronan/St. Ignatius had 106 1/2, Libby 60, Eureka 49, Troy 28, Clark Fork 12 1/2 and Noxon 7.

Wilhelm went over the bar at 8 feet to win the pole vault for the Wildkats.

C-Falls had good success in the 400-meter dash and distance events, scoring 50 points.

Tianna Burns placed second in the 400 (1:05.13), where Nikki Elek was fourth (1:06.57). Cedar Jordt was second in the 800 (2:39.66). Cortney White finished fourth (2:43.38) and Ashli Fairbank fifth (2:44.51).

Fairbank earned third in the 1,600 (6:07.06). Dannah Turner was fourth (6:15.02) and Nicki Moser fifth (6:19.40). In the 3,200, Turner placed third (13:42.00), Moser was fourth (13:42.72) and Alexas Young fifth (13:44.16).

Kayla DeWit was second in the triple jump (32 feet, 1/4 inch) and tied for third in the high jump (4-10).

Placing second were McKenzie Reeve in the 300 hurdles (51.34) and Alyssa Ladenburg in the javelin (110-2). Anna Byrd tied for second in the pole vault (7-6). Sophia Lewis-Peterson placed fifth in the long jump (14-3/4).

Iesha Holloway was fifth in the 100 (13.79).

The Wildkats placed third in the 400 relay (54.81) and the 1,600 relay (4:23.76).
