The Whitefish Parks and Recreation Department will host a public meeting soliciting public comments for the development of a comprehensive parks and recreation master plan. The meeting will be held in the Whitefish City Council chambers on Thursday, April 30 (today) and in the library meeting room on Thursday, May 7, both dates from 7-9 p.m. Topics will include program services, park facility development and acquisition, trail development and urban tree management. The Lipizzaner Stallions will present a tribute to Vienna at Majestic Valley Arena on Thursday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m. This is the 37th anniversary of the world-famous dancing horse show with 400 years of history. Flathead Valley Community College Theatre will present a modern version of the wartime British farce “See How They Run” in the FVCC Black Box Theatre inside FVCC’s Arts and Technology Building on May 1 and 2 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 general admission and $5 students and seniors. Whitefish Theatre Company will present “Annie Jr.” on May 1-10 at the O’Shaughnessy. With a cast and crew of more than 40 Flathead Valley youths, “Annie Jr.” will tug at the heartstrings with its familiar songs and a story based on the popular comic strip. The cast and crew will collect non-perishable food items for the North Valley Food Bank during the entire production. They will also collect dog and cat food to donate to local animal shelters. Performance dates are May 1-2 and 8-9 at 7:30 p.m. and May 3 and 10 at 4 p.m. with all seats reserved. Tickets are $14 adults and $10 students and seniors. Flathead County Democrats will gather for their annual spring dinner on Friday, May 1, from 6-9 p.m. at Grouse Mountain Lodge in Whitefish. Tickets are available by calling 752-0298. Mark Holston was recently elected to succeed Joan Vetter Ehrenberg as chairperson of the Flathead Democratic Party at their annual convention in Kalispell. The rest of the executive committee includes vice chairperson Sandra Schott, secretary Scott Wurster and treasurer Nancy Fenner. Mike Beck, a popular solo acoustic singer-songwriter who lives in Montana and California, will perform at Stillwater Landing north of Whitefish on Friday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m. Beck has performed in more than six countries and throughout the U.S. and known for his memorable ballads that capture old California, our world today, and the cowboy way of life. His song “Amanda Come Home” was featured on NPR’s Weekend Edition and is dedicated to all the women who served in Iraq. Two of his songs were listed in the “13 Best Cowboy Songs of All Time” in the April 2009 issue of “Western Horseman.” A donation of $15 at the door is suggested.

“Fashion For Compassion,” a luncheon and fashion show, will be hosted by the new S.M. Bradford clothing store, the Northwest Humane Society and the Golden Agers at the senior center on Second Street on Saturday, May 2, beginning at noon. Some dogs will join human models on the runway. Human Therapy on Horseback will hold its sixth annual dinner and auction at the Hilton Garden Inn in Kalispell on Saturday, May 2, with doors opening at 4:30 p.m. There will be live and silent auctions, a cash bar, a raffle, door prizes and entertainment by David Ackroyd. The nonprofit organization provides financial assistance to physically, mentally and emotionally challenged individuals through therapeutic horseback riding. Valley Voices Community Choir will hold their annual spring concert at the Glacier High School auditorium on Saturday, May 2, at 7 p.m. “All Aboard!” will feature a selection of both sacred and secular choral music. Volunteers are needed for the A Trail Runs Through It project. Construction will begin on the trail this summer. Interested volunteers, trail contractors, neighbors and other community members are invited to an open house in the Whitefish city council chambers on Tuesday, May 5, at 7 p.m. where they can see the design plans and learn how to get involved in this multi-use trail system. Plans include construction of up to nine miles of new trail this summer on mixed public and private ownerships connecting Lion Mountain Loop Road, Skyles Lake and Beaver Lake.
