Local historian Bob O’Neil will lead a discussion of “I Will Be Meat for My Salish, by Bon Whealdon, at The Museum at Central School’s History Book Club meeting on Thursday, April 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the museum, 124 Second Avenue East in Kalispell. Whealdon’s book provides an authentic window into life on the Flathead Indian Reservation through oral interviews conducted in the 1920s and 1930s and preserved by the Montana Writers Project. Dan Fagre, a U.S. Geological Survey research ecologist in Glacier National Park, will present a slide show that compares and contrasts climate-change impacts and park management differences in the mountainous ecosystems of Sagarmatha National Park, in Nepal, to Glacier Park on Saturday, April 11, from 4-6 p.m. at Montana House in Apgar Village. Folk singer Tracy Grammer will perform at the KM Theatre in Kalispell on Saturday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m. Considered one of the fastest rising acts in folk music, Grammer toured as part of Joan Baez’s backup band. The Glacier Knights football team’s home opener is Saturday, April 11, at 3 p.m. at Columbia Falls High School against the Great Falls Gladiators. The 2009 schedule includes the Mt. Ogden Marauders on April 18 at 4 p.m., the Davis Vipers on April 15 at 5 p.m., the Snake River Sabercats on May 2 at 3 p.m., the Helena Titans on May at 9 at 3 p.m., the Utah County Outlaws away on May 16 at 6 p.m., no game on May 23, the Great Falls Gladiators away on May 30 at 4 p.m., and the Helena Titans on June 6 at 1 p.m.

The City of Whitefish and volunteers from the Great Northern Seventh Day Adventist Church will host a giant children’s Easter egg hunt in Depot Park on Sunday, April 12, at 2 p.m. There will be thousands of eggs, prizes and stuffed animals, along with other goodies provided by local businesses. The event will be open to all kids 13-and-younger. All candy will be provided by Third Street Market and will be organic and naturally sweetened, but will be taste-tested beforehand for kid’s approval. The Whitefish Senior Center will be filling the eggs, while the Stumptown Art Studio will be painting them. Easter egg hunting will be done in three age groups: 0-3, 4-6 and 7-13. A city official will fire off a gun to start the event. A wheelchair and handicap-accessible zone will also be provided.

Rabbi Allen Secher will lead Bet Harim’s Passover Seder on Sunday, April 12, at 5 p.m. at the Glacier Universalist Unitarian Fellowship, 1515 Trumble Creek Road, in Kalispell. This year, there will be an assigned-dish Passover Seder and a charge of $5 per member and $10 per non-members. The Flathead Audubon Society will feature presentations on “Mosquito Control” and “The Crown of the Continent Ecosystem” on Monday, April 13, at 7 p.m. in The Summit’s Community Room in Kalispell. Bruce Gunderson, Flathead County mosquito program coordinator, will discuss control and research methods used by the local Mosquito Control District. Marilyn Blair will present the history, activities and products of the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem Education Consortium. She has been active in the organization for more than 10 years.

Tuesday

The Back Country Horsemen of the Flathead will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 14, at the Fish, Wildlife and Parks Building, across from the Fairgroundsin Kalispell.
