Thanks for the vote

Thank you to all of the community members who voted for me in the Whitefish School Board election. I greatly appreciate your support. Even though I won't be serving on the board, I will continue to contribute to our community.

The drug-testing issue has certainly helped open the lines of communication between our community and school board. I would like to propose that we develop a School Site Council to keep these lines of communication open to all areas within our schools and make them official.

In other school districts, a School Site Council is group of teachers and parents (each elected by their peers) and headed by the principal. The high school SSC also includes students.

They conduct monthly meetings to develop a school improvement plan and discuss issues such as events, assemblies, grants, curriculum, discipline and school policy. They maintain communications with the school board, students and community.

This type of council would be a great addition to our district to keep the communication flowing. I have previously served on three School Site Councils for more than six years.

As a mother of three high school students, I would be willing to help create this in our district. My desire is to positively affect the lives of my children and the children of our community.
