| June 26, 2008 11:00 PM

James Blair Hailey, or Bubba as he was more widely known throughout the Flathead Valley, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on June 20, 2008, at his new home in Somers. He was 53 years old.

He was born in Paso Robles, Calif., to Merna McMillan and James Hailey. Bubba grew up as a cowboy on a ranch in Shandon, Calif. He graduated from high school in 1973.

Bubba owned his own concrete company as a young man and went on to work for the railroad for several years. Since returning to Montana, Bubba has owned and operated Hailey's Trucking and Bubba Hailey Land and Road Development. He built many roads in the Flathead Valley.

Bubba was preceded in death by his cousins, Mike and Donnie, and his dogs Goober and Checkers.

He is survived by his wife Joli and step-children Emilee and Stephanie Christensen; his mother Merna and step-father Lance Gentile; his three sisters, Jamie, Jackie and Jill; nephews and nieces James, Hailey, Monte and Luke; many other aunts, uncles, cousins, family members and good friends; and his faithful and loving dog Dickens.

Everyone is invited to attend a memorial celebration of Bubba's life on Saturday, June 28, 2008, from 2-7 p.m. at Jeannette Cheney's residence, 2139 Witty Lane, in Columbia Falls, where they can walk on the beautiful grounds and trails that Bubba created there.
