Fred Edgerton

Fred W. Edgerton died peacefully June 3, 2008, at Hillside Manor, in Missoula, following a long illness with cancer.

Fred was born June 24, 1923, in Whitefish to Jessie M. and Willard M. Edgerton. He attended school in Whitefish and graduated in 1942.

He served in World War II and, upon returning to Whitefish, went to work for Great Northern Railroad. After working for the railroad for 40 years, he retired in 1982 from Burlington Northern Railroad.

He married Lois M. Willoughby on Nov. 13, 1950.

Throughout the years, Fred enjoyed fishing the North Fork of the Flathead, sports and being with his family. He will be greatly missed by everyone.

Fred is survived by his wife Lois; daughter Lorrie Hamilton, of Missoula; sons Dan Edgerton and wife Judy, of Florence, David Edgerton and wife Tammie, of Missoula, and Mike Edgerton, of Missoula; grandchildren Cory Hamilton, wife Jessica and daughter Sophie, of California, Kelly Hamilton (serving in Afghanistan), wife Patty and daughter Lexus, of Missoula, Jennifer Eudaily and husband Mike, of Missoula, and Jaycee Hanson, of Whitefish; sister Delores Luke, of Whitefish; brother Richard Edgerton and wife Colleen, of Billings; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial was held June 6, 2008, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Hamilton.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Fred's name to The American Cancer Society or The Episcopal Relief and Development Fund.
