AA Twins blanked by Lakers

The game was a lot closer than the final score indicates for seven innings, but the Glacier Twins would rather forget that seventh frame.

On a rainy Thursday evening last week at Griffin Field in Kalispell, the Twins held the Lakers to only two runs for the first five innings. But the Lakers' Zach Broston belted a home run in the sixth, and his team scored seven more times in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

The Twins lost to the Lakers 10-0 in the Western AA American Legion showdown, moving them to 0-3 in the conference and 8-9 overall.

Kalispell out hit Glacier eight-to-one, and the Twins stranded runners at second base in the third and fourth innings. Scott Palmer was in scoring position on second when he got caught trying to steal third in the first inning.

"Nobody could hit," Twins pitcher Wes Beougher said. "It wasn't like the guy was a phenomenal pitcher or anything. We just couldn't hit anything."

Scott Yogodzinski finished with seven strikeouts. He gave up only three hits and three walks. He was relieved in the seventh by Michael Hader and Beougher in the eighth.

"Scott pitched a great game," Beougher said. "He only gave up two hits, but after he was gone, it was just out of control."

Last Sunday's doubleheader against Libby was rained out. The Twins host the Kootenai Valley Rangers this Saturday (June 14) at 7 p.m.
