Forty CFST swimmers bound for state meet
The Columbia Falls Swim Team earned second place in the 2008 Western Divisional meet last weekend in Conrad, finishing behind only the Bitterroot Swim Team. Bitterroot accumulated 1,412 points in combined boys and girls competition; CFST had 855.
Forty of the 41 CFST members qualified for the state meet at Fort Benton this Saturday and Sunday.
Shelby was third with 840.5 points, followed by Conrad with 657, Fort Benton 574, Chester 497, Cut Bank 405, Fairfield 137, Choteau 117, Sunburst 112.5 and Plains 112.
CFST was also second in the boys division with 531 points. Bitterroot was first with 726. Shelby had 394.5, Fort Benton 337, Chester 277, Cut Bank 195, Conrad 110, Fairfield 73, Plains 46 and Sunburst 41.5.
In the girls division, Bitterroot was first with 686 points. Conrad was second with 547, followed by Shelby with 446, CFST 324, Fort Benton 237, Chester 220, Cut Bank 210, Choteau 117, Sunburst 71, Plains 66 and Fairfield 64.
Erik Anderson and Colton Babcock of the CFST were three-event winners at the divisional meet and both earned high-point honors for their age group.
Swimming in the boys 15-19-year-old division, Anderson won the 50-meter freestyle, 50 butterfly and 100 butterfly. He broke the pool record with a 28.17 in the 50 fly, and a 1:05.09 in the 100 fly.
Babock, in boys 8 & under, was first in the 25 breaststroke, 25 butterfly and 100 IM. He set a new pool record in the 25 breaststroke in his age group with a time of 26.99.
Other divisional champions for the CFST were Bria Ward (girls 13-14), 100 backstroke; Vincent Erickson (boys 13-14), 100 backstroke; and the boys 15-19 200 medley relay (Scott Boyd, Alan Newton, Anderson and Michael Baiar).
"Many of our swimmers had their best times last weekend," CFST head coach Mike Nelson said. "State next weekend will be even better.
"The swimmers are well conditioned, tapered and ready for speed," the coach added.
