Emerald 12-U team shoots for state softball title

| July 10, 2008 11:00 PM

The Glacier Emeralds 12-U girls fast pitch softball team started out the 2008 season with plenty of goals in mind. The main one being to win the state championship.

So far this season the team has compiled a 19-2 record. They placed second in the Great Falls tournament, and placed first in Helena in one of the biggest tournaments of the year — beating out seven other teams. The Emeralds shut out Great Falls Select 6-0 in last weekend's championship game in Kalispell to earn first place.

Head coach Tim Severson thinks the team still hasn't played its best ball yet. He's hoping that happens this weekend at the state tournament in Kalispell.

The team's defense is led by pitcher Sidney Alberts, who has pitched six shutout games while getting great support from the offense. Offensive leaders have been Hannah Atlee, Tiffany Hummer and Timi Severson.
