The Gridiron Club held their second fund-raiser, a barbecue, last Thursday and although they had a small turnout at the event they raised $1,000.

The Gridiron Club is a group of parents, coaches and community members working to raise money and awareness about the BHS football team. To date the club has raised about $27,000, most of which will go to improving the BHS football team. Due to Title IX, the Gridiron Club must use a portion of the funds raised to make a comparable impact on a girls sport at BHS.

Gridiron Club treasurer Kelly Rieke said she thought the small turnout was the result of a combination of there being a lot of other activities going on in the area at the same time, and that they may not have gotten the word out to the community early enough. Rieke also said she thinks a lot of people aren't thinking about football because it isn't football season.

"Even though it is out of sight out of mind we need to get it going now or we won't have everything together to help the team in the fall," Rieke said.
