Adults can have second chance at upcoming Bigfork Community Prom

For some the memories of high school prom come rushing back in a flood of good times, plenty of pictures and maybe a kiss at the end of the night.

For others, it's recollections of palms sweating as they awkwardly attach the corsage, hoping not to stick their date with the pin.

Whether the first time around remains a pleasant memory or something discussed through teary eyes with a counselor, everyone has a chance for a do-over at Bigfork's first-ever community prom.

Hosted by the Friends of Bigfork Schools, the prom promises to be "Rewound. Redone. Remade" according to its slogan.

Organizer Diana Rahdert said the event has been talked about for a few years and finally she "picked up the ball" and got it done.

The goal, she said, is for the event to become an annual fundraiser for Friends of Bigfork Schools, a foundation that helps the schools meet needs that aren't covered in their budget.

"We felt like if we do raise money that it should go to the high school since that bond got voted down," Rahdert said.

After talking with high school Principal Thom Peck, she said it was decided that a new reader board could be a good project. The schools' current reader board is located on Grand Drive across from Flathead Bank and isn't particularly visible.

"They would probably be looking to upgrade to some kind of electronic board," Rahdert said.

The Bigfork Community Prom will be held from 7 - 11 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, at BRUMAR Estates in Ferndale. Tickets to the event are $25 each and there are only 200 tickets available. They can be purchased at Local Joe's on Highway 35 or downtown at Electric Ave. Gifts.

The event's dress code is semiformal, though Rahdert encouraged people to take the opportunity to show off any "vintage" wear that might be lurking in a forgotten corner of the closet.

"If people have a vintage dress they still fit in or get on eBay and find something wacky it would be great," she said. "Or at least a cocktail dress."

If nothing else, the event will give people a chance to cut a rug outside of the Kalispell bar scene and support a good cause, she said.
