Dwain Rose

Dwain Rose, of Rifle, Colo., passed away peacefully Dec. 26, 2007.

Dwain was born Aug. 22, 1929, to Ralph and Eva (Mozena) Rose, in Akron, Ohio. He lived in Akron until 1965 and then moved to Massillon, Ohio.

He attended East High School in Akron and began working in the mailroom at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in 1946, eventually working his way into computer programming, which he continued until his retirement in 1987.

He married Kathleen (Caddie) Houchin on Oct. 11, 1947. Dwain was a remarkable man who enjoyed scuba diving, snow skiing, slalom and trick water skiing, and family vacations at Pointe au Baril, Ontario.

Dwain and Caddie were active in the Goodyear Boating and Yachting Association for many years before leaving Ohio. He served as Commodore in 1978.

In 1992, Dwain and Caddie moved to Colorado to be closer to family. They joined the Congregational Church of the Valley in Silt, Colo. He loved to tinker and was able to fix just about anything. Dwain enjoyed singing in the Mountain Sounds Chorus. He spent many happy hours at the Rifle Senior Center and especially enjoyed calling Bingo on Friday afternoons.

Dwain was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Rifle Lodge No. 129, A.F. & A.M. He was a member of the Masons for more than 54 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen and granddaughter Moriah Moen.

Dwain is survived by his son Larry Rose and wife Bethany, of Silt; daughters Gail Schoeppner and husband Paul, of Silt, and Brenda Moen and husband Marc, of Whitefish; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place at the Rifle Funeral Home on Jan. 5, 2008, with Reverend Jim Warn and Pastor Eddie Piker officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Rifle.

Memorial contributions may be made in Dwain’s memory to the American Cancer Society or any charity of the donor’s choice.
