Whitefish Lake Golf Course opens all 36 holes

Golf course opens

The Whitefish Lake Golf Course opens this week with all 36 holes ready for play. The greens may be as good as ever, according to Superintendent Dick Collins. It appears the long winter did not negatively impact the quality of the Bentgrass greens at Whitefish Lake Golf Course.

The tees and fairways are also emerging in fantastic condition. These excellent playing conditions are a tribute to the quality of care administered by our green crew in winter preparation and season long turf grass programs. Tee it up.

Tee times two days in advance

The policy of the WLGA will remain with tee times available two days in advance. Members and guests may call 862-4000 two days in advance to reserve tee times on either course. The phone system is designed to stack calls when busy, so that the staff can take the calls in the order they were placed. Because we allow players to walk up to the window as well as call, the list can get long rather quickly, resulting in calls as early as 7:30 a.m. to not get the times they are requesting. Since this is the Flathead Valley's most requested golf destination, players at Whitefish Lake Golf Course are advised to plan accordingly.

New deck and service facility

The new deck and service facility for outside use is nearly complete, with only some related asphalt work remaining to be finished. The new deck area has a tremendous WOW factor and is designed for increased efficiency as well.

An additional water station will be available for players near the first tee of the North Course. Once the outside deck services are in full operation the patrons will be able to order food and drinks that can be served quicker than before. The old deck was over 30 years old and in complete need for replacement. Where else can you find a small-town golf course that makes such great improvements to their member's facility every year?

Cart path restrictions

When the course first opens for the season, the restriction of carts to the paths is more likely to be the norm to protect the turf quality and related playing conditions. Please follow the posted conditions and help us maintain what is arguably the best playability in the region. Until the weather improves and soil temperature reach at lease 50 degrees the turf does not start to grow and can't recover from stress very quickly.

Pro Shop ready

Tim Olson's Golf Shop is loaded with inventory to meet your every need for equipment and apparel for the 2008 season. The experienced staff will once again offer individual and small group lessons for players of all ability levels. Call the shop to schedule a review of the basics and to get off on the right, or left, foot for the early season play. Practice with a purpose and don't just hit golf balls. The new range is open and the target greens are positioned to allow you to hone your iron shots at multiple distances. The goal is consistency, not just length.
