Column illogical

Whitefish city councilor Jan Metzmaker's editorial column has no logic to it. While it's true that Whitefish is a great city and has some nice amenities which many people enjoy, it doesn't follow that we should be taxed without representation to enjoy these benefits. I can use the library in Hawaii when I visit there — does that mean I should be governed by Honolulu? I could use the ice skating rink in New York City — but does that mean that people in New York should determine how my land is used? I enjoy attending the Bigfork Playhouse, but does that mean I should be in the Bigfork planning district too? I could continue with illustration after illustration, but the point is that this is America. We are blessed with access to amenities in any city in pretty much the entire country. We don't have to pay for these amenities or be governed by these cities just because we want to enjoy their cultural activities or entertainment opportunities. Why should we be penalized because the people who are trying to control us without giving us a chance to vote for them live close to home?
