Softball squad picks up another win in Browning

The Lady Bulldogs took a 3-0 victory away from their trip to Western A Browning on Thursday. Although Whitefish had only three hits, Torey Ost struck out 16 Browning batters and held the Lady Running Indians to only three singles.

“It was not particularly aesthetically-pleasing to watch,” head coach David Dachs said with a chuckle. “But a win is a win.”

The Lady Bulldogs scored two unearned runs in the first inning and got another run in the fourth.

Kristi Whisler singled to get on base, then stole second. Torey Ost then hit a ground ball to the shortstop, who allowed Whisler to get to third and threw Ost out at first (called a fielder’s choice). Desiree Clarke then hit a single to send Whisler home.

The other two runs came on passed balls, when a runner is stealing on a pitch that gets away from the catcher. Only one base is earned.

Shelbi Long had a double in the fourth inning, and Hailey Mortensen had a bunt for a single in the fifth inning.

Whitefish (3-2) is on a three-game win streak after getting shut out in their first two games.

The game was moved to Browning from Whitefish because field conditions at Smith Fields were a little too wet to play. The May 2 game scheduled in Browning will now be played in Whitefish.

Whitefish moves to 3-0 in the conference with the win.

The Lady Bulldogs play on April 18 at Libby.
