Bulldogs split up for track meets

The Whitefish High School track team split up on Saturday, sending students to both Missoula and Bigfork to compete.

At the Missoula County Public Schools Invitational meet, the Class A Bulldogs placed 10th overall with 34 points, competing against Class AA schools.

Aaron Tkachyk took first in the long jump competition with 20-6, beating Sam Tedrow, of Flathead High School at 19-10.

Kaleb Prestegaard took second in the pole vault with 13-0, behind Ryan Kelley of Polson at 13-6.

Drew Coco placed fourth in the 1,600-meter race with a time of 4:38.22. He placed third in the 3,200 with a 9:57:10.

For the girls, Lauren Kuennen took third in the 800 (2:26:30) and fourth in the 1,600 (5:26:78).

Ashley Ferda placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.82), and Hailey Farmin took fourth in the long jump with a 15-02.5. The girls relay team took sixth in the 400-meter with a time of 53.28.

In Bigfork, Whitefish placed 11th with six points, but obviously key teammates were competing down south that day.

Bulldog Seth Wiley placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles and third in the 300-meter hurdles.

Several Whitefish High School records fell at the meet. Most notably, former Bulldog Courtney Ferda's old meet record of 27.63 in the 200-meter race was broken by Dutton Storle with a 27.42.

Former Bulldog R.C. Carter's 2006 pole vault record of 13 feet also fell to Brian Schenevar, of Thompson Falls, with a 14-foot vault.

The Florence relay team beat the Bulldogs 2006 record in the 400-meter relay, 52.83, by 0.31 of a second.
