NV Music classes begins fall session

North Valley Music School in Whitefish, celebrating its 10th year of serving the Flathead Valley, begins its fall group classes the week of Sept. 10.

Music Together(R) offers children from birth to 4 and their parent or caregiver a chance to experience songs, chants, movement activities and instrumental jam sessions. Weekly classes are held Monday, Tuesday or Thursday mornings at a cost of $95 for a 10-week session.

Music Jamboree! provides 4- to 6-year-olds with rhythm, song, dance and instrument exploration. Weekly classes are offered Wednesdays or Thursdays from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at a cost of $60 for a 10-week session.

New this fall is Piano Readiness which prepares 3- to 5-year-olds (and their parents) for the fundamentals of playing the piano. The cost is $60 for a 10-week session.

Children's Choir is offered on Wednesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. for first- to third-graders and 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. for fourth- to sixth-graders. The cost is $40 for a 12-week session.

Back Country Horsemen meet Sept. 11

The Back Country Horsemen of the Flathead will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Fish, Wildlife & Parks Building, located at 490 North Meridian Road. The meeting is open to the public.

This non-profit organization is dedicated to protecting stockowners' use of wilderness and back country trails, education of horse owners on Leave-No-Trace principles and volunteer services and support to back country agencies.

Help needed for Marathon

The Two Bear Marathon is set for Saturday, Sept. 15 in Whitefish and volunteers are needed for aide stations. Volunteers will work two- to three-hour shifts from 6 a.m. to p.m.

They will be responsible for setting up a table, handing out water and snacks as well as cheering on the runners.

All entry fees go directly to the Wave Scholarship Fund, which provides reduced membership dues to individuals and families in financial need.

There will be a barbecue for everyone involved in the Two Bear Marathon after the event.

KELLEY & KELLY exhibit

Montana Stone Gallery will be hosting an opening reception for the mary KELLEY & KELLY apgar exhibit on Friday, Sept. 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. Mary's work beautifully captures Montana landscapes through traditional plein aire techniques while Kelly's work, done with cattle markers (oil paint sticks), offers viewers colorful, contemporary scenery. The opening coincides with Kalispell's First Friday Art Walk and the exhibit runs through Oct. 26.

FVCC offers pair of classes

Discover a fun new hobby by enrolling in a non-credit harmonica or mandolin class at Flathead Valley Community College. Taught by George Cowan, the five-week harmonica class will meet Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. beginning Sept. 12. Learn various skills from playing simple tunes to harmonizing with others. The cost is $39.

Mandolin will also meet Wednesdays beginning Sept. 12 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The class will cover tuning, strumming and picking. The cost is $79.
