Rose Horn

Rose M. Horn, 74, of Lewistown and a former Whitefish resident, died Sept. 1, 2007, in the Central Montana Medical Center in Lewistown following a year-long battle with cancer.

She was born Nov. 28, 1932, in Spencer, Neb., the fifth of seven children of farmers John and Lillian (Johnson) White.

She received her education in Nebraska and Wyoming, graduating from high school in Powell, Wyo. She attended Montana State University in Bozeman and began working in Yellowstone National Park.

In 1954, Rose was united in marriage to George F. "Bud" Scotten, Jr., in Billings. In 1972, they moved to Whitefish, where she owned and operated the Mode O' Day Store. In 1978, they divorced, and she continued to live in Whitefish.

In 1980, she was united in marriage to Don Horn, in Los Angeles, Calif. They lived at Redondo Beach, later moving to Boulder City, Nev., and then to Wickenburg, Ariz., before their divorce in 2000. She then moved back to Whitefish. She lived in Whitefish until moving to Lewistown earlier this year.

Rose traveled extensively with husband Don, visiting countries all over the world. She was particularly fond of Australia, returning there many times for extended stays. She enjoyed making stained glass and spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son Matthew in 2003, her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by sons David Scotten and wife Dianne, of Lewistown, and Timothy Scotten of Portland, Ore.; brother Irving White, of Boulder, Colo.; sister Mary Soukup, of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren Christopher, Dustin and Katie Rose Scotten, Jessica (Matt) Juelfs and Joshua Fields; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will take place at the Highland Cemetery in Great Falls on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at 1 p.m. A reception will follow at the Rainbow Hotel in Great Falls.
