The ball is rolling toward updating the Canyon Neighborhood Plan.

According to BJ Grieve, assistant director of Flathead County Planning and Zoning, the county planning board met last Wednesday night (Nov. 7) to approve an 11-member informal, ad-hoc Canyon Plan Update Committee.

Grieve said it was determined that a good proportionate representation would be four residents from Hungry Horse, three from Martin City, two from Coram, and one each from West Glacier and Essex. They are residents of what is termed the Upper, Middle or Lower canyon.

"They felt that it is a diverse committee, solidly represented by long-time residents with a few shorter term residents to represent some fresh perspective," Grieve said of the planning board's choices for the update committee.

Grieve took applications from Canyon residents who were interested in serving on the update committee. Those applications were submitted to the county commissioners, who elected 11 of the people to the committee.

Elected to the update committee:

Hungry Horse

? Darlene Wagner

? Brent Schmidt

? Eric Sexton

? Sue Allen

Martin City

? Loretta Byrd

? Bill Baum

? Sandy Welch

Coram

? Bruce Jungnitsch

? James Ridenour

West Glacier

? Monica Jungster

Essex

? Paula Gill

"It is important to know that ANY work on the plan will go back to the public before it is considered for adoption, and that this committee is just a group of locals that will advise staff and provide guidance in updating the plan," Grieve said.

The first meeting of the Canyon Plan Update Committee will be held Nov. 26 at 6 p.m. at the Hungry Horse Chapel. All meetings are open to the public and public comment will be taken at the end of the meeting.
