Girls are tops in Polson, boys take second

With 94 points, the Whitefish girls track team took first place at Saturday's ABC track meet in Polson.

The boys took second with 90 1/3 points, coming oh-so-close to matching the first-place Polson team, which earned 92 1/3 points. The Columbia Falls girls team placed eighth and the C-Falls boys placed seventh.

Courtney Ferda rocketed to first place in the 200-meter dash in 26 seconds and also won the 300 in 45.42.

Her cousin, Ashley Ferda, hurtled to first place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.35 and took first in the javelin with a distance of 120-9.

Carmel Johnston cleared 9-6 to take first in the pole vault.

On the boys side, Drew Coco persevered to place first in the 1,600 in 4:28.632. Teammate Cort Rogers took first in the pole vault with a height of 14-0. Rogers also reigned supreme in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.646.

The boys 400-meter relay team also hustled to first in 44.643.

Other finishers included:

Heather Melcer took fifth in the 400 in 63.45.

Anne Danczyk took second in the 3,200 in 13:00.40 and also placed fourth in the 1,600 in 5:37.68.

The girls 400-meter relay team placed second in 50.51 and the girls 1,600-meter relay team placed fourth in 4:14.51.

Marni Hale took fifth in the long jump with a distance of 15-3 1/2.

Danny Neff placed third in the 100 in 11.787 and Aaron Tkachyk placed sixth in 12.067.

Neff also tied for fourth place in the 200 in 24.0.

Ian Mallams placed fourth in the 800 in 2:02.29 and Coco placed sixth in 2:07.55

Mallams also placed third in the 1,600 in 4:41.465.

Seth Wiley took fifth place in the 110-meter hurdles in 17.366.

Neff placed second in the 300-meter hurdles in 42.7 and Wiley took sixth in 43.8.

Colt Idol placed second in the high jump with a height of 6-2. Rogers tied for third with 5-10.

Kaleb Prestegaard placed fourth in the pole vault with a height of 12-0.

Dustin Beck placed sixth in the javelin with a distance of 155-6.

The boys 1,600-meter relay team placed sixth in 3:39.344.
