Rodeo season kicks off this weekend

Columbia Falls High School rodeo athletes open their season this weekend in Helena. Entered and competing are senior team members Rachel Thomson and Shane McCaffree, along with freshman Matt Triplett. Both Thomson and McCaffree are currently ranked in the standings for the Montana High School Rodeo Association. Thomson, who qualified for the National High School Rodeo Finals in 2005, is currently fifth in barrel racing. She also competes in pole bending and breakaway roping. McCaffree is ranked fifth in the Team Roping. He is also competes in Tie Down Roping. Bullrider Matt Triplett is hoping to move up in the standings. He sustained an injury during the fall season that kept him out of competition for a few rodeos.

It is expected that he will have a strong comeback this spring.

The season will continue with rodeos slated every weekend in April and May culminating with the Montana High School Rodeo Association Finals June 13-17 in Missoula. Top contestants from the MHSRA Finals will compete at the Silver State Invitational Rodeo in Fallon, Nev., and the National High School Rodeo Finals in Springfield, Ill., in July.
