More moguls like Foley welcome

| March 22, 2007 11:00 PM

What has Bill Foley done lately?

Well, if you're going to stand in judgment of Foley, the least you could do is use your points thoroughly. Let's review his latest atrocities — he bought some restaurants "to go along with the one he just opened, the Cornerhouse Grill."

I can't say from personal experience (a little beyond my budget), but I've been told it's an exceptional restaurant with an exquisite wine list.

Can a restaurant succeed if it is not valued and appreciated by the community it serves?

"He has purchased land in and around Whitefish." Now, I can assure you that land sold in and around Whitefish is done so at a premium, so those fortunate souls in our community who were the sellers definitely benefited.

Speaking of the sellers, isn't it ironic that the rich buyers are the only ones placed in the crosshairs of public scorn, when they can't buy without those "locals" who are willing to sell? Where is the indignation for them?

"He has controlling interest in Winter Sports Inc." Well now, what's better, someone who actually lives and has a vested interest in our community being in such a position, or an individual or corporation from out of state?

"What does Bill Foley's presence add to the Whitefish area? Has he contributed to projects to enhance life here?" Much more than what Scott Sorensen has already mentioned.

"Why doesn't his giving match his getting?" I'm sorry, I guess I wasn't aware that the restaurants, land and WSI stock were just given to Foley. Incidentally, who among us can possibly give as much as we receive? I believe that's an economic oxymoron.

"There will be other moguls coming to take parts of our dream home and to make money from it as it grows and changes." If Foley's actions are indicative of such "moguls," I suggest we put out the welcome mat.
