Arnold Hanson

Arnold M. Hanson, age 90, passed away peacefully on Feb. 16, 2007, in Kennewick, Wash.

Arnold was born Oct. 5 1916 in Havre, the second of three children. At an early age, the family moved to Whitefish where Arnold received his education.

In 1940, Arnold joined the Army and spent the next five years fighting in the South Pacific and the Philippine Islands. He was awarded the American Defense Service Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Bronze Service Arrowhead, and the Bronze Star. Arnold received an honorable discharge from the Army in 1945.

Arnold met Vera Tubbs in 1945, and they were married in Whitefish in 1946.

In 1960, the Hanson family moved to Kennewick, where for the next 25 years Arnold was an insurance agent. He was an active member of the Kennewick VFW Post and held many distinguished positions, including post commander. Arnold enjoyed participation in Post activities.

Arnold enjoyed fishing in Montana and had a special gift for conversation.

His father Martin Christ Hanson, mother Anna Sorbo Hanson and brother Norman Hanson preceded him in death.

His wife Vera, brother Donald and wife Helen, daughter Sheryl, and son Greg and wife Nancy, survive Arnold. Arnold had five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arnold was buried with full military honors. He was laid to rest on Feb. 19, 2007, at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Kennewick, Wash.
