For the Hungry Horse News

The Glacier Twins must have wanted to quickly erase the memory of their championship game shutout loss in the Ed Gallo tournament over the weekend, because they blew away Kootenai Valley 11-1 in five innings.

The Tuesday night win was part one of a two-game sweep of the Rangers, which gave the Twins a 3-3 Western A Legion baseball conference record.

The night game wasn't nearly as one-sided, as the Rangers held on until the fifth inning before Glacier squeaked out a 2-1 win.

Glacier moved to 10-16 overall, 3-3 in conference play, while Kootenai Valley dropped to 0-4 in conference action and 7-16 overall.

Twins 11, Rangers 1

Cody Elek went 4-for-4 with four RBIs to lead the Twins. Glacier had 13 hits on the evening. Scott Yogodzinski (3-4) held Kootenai valley to five hits over five innings while striking out four. Twins third baseman Adam Pisk and right fielder Jack Cronin were both 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs.

Rangers shortstop Chad Price went 2-for-2 with three stolen bases. Pitcher Kris Chupp was 2-for-3, including a third inning single that tied the game at 1-1. However, the Twins exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning to close the door.

Twins 2, Rangers 1

Adam Pisk pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings to earn a win, and Glacier edged out a close win despite getting only three hits off a fantastic performance by Rangers pitcher Jordan Lundberg.

Lundberg struck out seven Twins in six innings, but two Kootenai Valley errors in the fifth inning helped Jack Cronin score two batters.

The Rangers nearly tied the game in the seventh inning when center fielder Clete DeShazer walked and stole second, but Pisk retired the next two Rangers to end the game.
