Unforgetable memories

| January 18, 2007 10:00 PM

Several weeks ago, we traveled from Rio Grande City in South Texas to Whitefish. For most of us, it was the first time we had the opportunity to leave the Mexican border where we live. All of us are grateful to have had the opportunity to experience such a beautiful part of the country and want to thank everyone who helped.

Our trip was made possible through the generosity of many people who deserve to be recognized for their assistance. We would like to thank everyone who donated funds, especially Robert Nasits and his family. The Nasits live in Texas and own a home on Big Mountain. We wouldn't have made it without them. Thank you.

We would also like to thank Tim Murphy of State Farm Insurance and Dr. Randy Beach and Rayne Beach for their donations, as well as our teacher's family and friends from Oregon and California who donated money to help pay for our plane tickets.

Several area business contributed goods and services as well. Tamarack Ski and Patio generously donated free ski and snowboard rentals for the duration of our trip — thanks for your patience and sense of humor. Sportsman and Ski Haus donated snowshoes so we could explore Glacier National Park. Quickee Sandwich Shop, MacKenzie River Pizza, Subway and Safeway all donated meals. The carne asada at Quickees rivals our local taqueria. Thanks, Leslie.

Finally, many family friends loaned us warm clothes and boots to keep us dry and comfortable during our first experience with snow. Special thanks to Willie Hobbs for the hats.

We had a wonderful time and want you all to know that we appreciate everything you did to help us. We'll never forget our trip.
