Save pop tabs

Anyone saving tabs from pop or beer cans will have a convenient way of disposing of them, as the Whitefish Iguanas, in conjunction with the Whitefish Moose Lodge, will be collecting tabs for a worthy cause during the Winter Carnival parade on Feb. 3.

Iguana members with four-wheelers will be revving up their machines that day, providing easy access receptacles on their ATVs, one even pulling a trailer along the parade route, so tab-saving parade watchers can easily dispose of their collection.

Collecting tabs is an ongoing project of the Iguanas and Moose Lodge that creates funds for the Ronald McDonald houses in Billings and Missoula. The two organizations recently participated in the collection of 570,000 tabs, assisting a Conrad 4-H club in its project to help the Billings Ronald McDonald House that has been in operation since 1982. The only other house in Montana is in Missoula and opened last April.

Ronald McDonald Houses provide temporary housing for families of seriously ill children who live too far away to travel each day. Here, families find a strong, supportive and caring environment.

While the two Whitefish organizations hope to collect a large quantity of tabs during the parade, their efforts will still continue throughout the year. Tabs can always be dropped off at the Moose Lodge, 230 West 10th Street, in Whitefish, or call the lodge at 862-2669 and pick-up arrangements will be made.
