Support troops by voting June 6

| May 10, 2006 11:00 PM

June 6 is Montana's primary election. It is also the 62nd anniversary of D-Day, which was the Allied invasion of Europe.

As I have been out campaigning the last few weeks, I have noted many cars and homes with the various yellow ribbons remembering and supporting America's troops in far off wars.

A simple and meaningful way for all of us to support today's troops — as well as yesterday's — is to vote this June 6.

There are almost 125,000 of yesterday's soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen buried in 24 overseas military cemeteries in Europe, the Philippine Islands, England and Mexico that serve as their final resting places.

They never got back home to vote. The simple act of casting your vote on June 6, as well as every election, is a simple and permanent way to honor them.

Voting is the very basis of our democracy. Yet the vast majority of Americans do not vote. This June 6, let your voices be heard and cast a vote in memory and honor of those who paid the ultimate price to give you that right, that privilege, that honor.
