Hicks signs with UM track team

Whitefish High School senior Chris Hicks has signed a letter of intent with the University of Montana-Missoula, UM track and field coach Tom Raunig announced Nov. 18.

"Chris has tremendous potential in the jumps and multi-events at the college level," Raunig said.

Hicks led the Bulldogs to a third-place finish at state last year, taking first place in the high jump, long jump and triple jump. He also took fourth place in the 300-meter hurdles at state.

His personal bests of 6 feet 6 inches in the high jump, 21 feet 7 1/4 inches in the long jump and 45 feet 1/2 inch in the triple jump were ranked in the top six in the state among all classes last spring.

Hicks also was a star wide receiver with the Bulldogs football team.
