Mary Granier

Mary Patricia Granier, 83, passed away May 15, 2005, at her residence in Havre.

Mary was born to Ross and Gertrude ( Gallo) Lence on Oct. 12, 1921, in Whitefish. After graduating from Whitefish High School, Mary married Frank Granier, of Havre, in Nov. of 1939.

Following the death of her husband in November 1952, Mary attended Northern Montana College, where she graduated with honors in English in 1963. She taught at Sunnyside Grade School before moving to Havre High School, teaching English to so many of Havre's youth. Mary retired in 1983, giving her more time to visit family and friends. Mary's quiet but vibrant spirit touched the lives of many students, parents, colleagues, friends and family. She will be dearly missed.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband Frank Granier; siblings Marlo Lence and Louise Strunk; daughter Annette Granier; daughter-in-law Trish Granier; and a granddaughter Jennifer Granier.

Mary is survived by four of her five children, Louie Granier, of Carson City, Nev., James (Judie) Granier, of Littleton, Colo., Carmela (David) Hughes, of Laguna Niguel, Calif., Frank (Libby) Granier, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; 10 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

A prayer vigil and rosary service will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2005, at Holland and Bonine Funeral Chapel in Havre. Funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2005, at St. Jude Catholic Church, with Father Robert D. Grosch as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Calvary Cemetery. A fellowship luncheon will be held at the St. Jude Parish Center immediately after the services at the graveside.
