John Thorson

John M. Thorson, 81, former mayor of Whitefish, died May 10, 2005, at North Valley Hospital in Whitefish.

John was born June 16, 1923, in Conrad to Julius and Audrey Thorson. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with Anti Tank Company, 363rd Infantry, 91st Division and was honorably discharged on Nov. 28, 1945. He married Shirley Jeanne Maddux on Aug. 22, 1974, and they worked together in his shop, Flathead Upholstery, which he ran for 55 years.

John and Jeanne loved high school sports and followed the Bulldogs faithfully with their support and with any projects they had, including taking in the last track meet in Whitefish. John himself was a runner.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his infant son, John Roger Thorson.John Thorson

John is survived by his wife Jeanne, his sister-in-law Janice Maddux; mother-in-law Evelyn Maddux; and by sister-in-law Donna Maddux and her daughters and grandchildren; and by his aunt, Ruth Creighton.

A funeral service was held May 13, 2005, at the Austin Funeral Home in Whitefish, with Rev. David Kauffman officiating. Burial followed at Whitefish Cemetery.
