Nordic racers medal in Yellowstone and Truckee Calif Calif.

Erik Anderson and Ian Mallams, of the Glacier Nordic Ski Team, traveled to Truckee, California to compete in the Junior Olympics. Erik and Ian did extremely well competing against 60 other J2 boys at the national level. Erik placed seventh in the 5k Classic Race and 12th in the 5k freestyle (skate) race and Ian placed ninth in classic and 15th in the freestyle. Meanwhile, the remaining members of the Glacier Nordic Team traveled to West Yellowstone for the Western Regional Championship and Yellowstone Rendezvous races. They were accompanied by their coaches, Larry and Molly Bruce, and a younger nordic skier, Jack Steele. They also did exceptionally well.

The results for team members in the Western Regional Championship 5k Classic Race, held on March 11, 2005, were as follows:

Open Junior Male: Mike Bestwick, first place, J1 Female: Sierra McCartney, third place , J2 Female: Clare Miller, first place , J2 Male: Peter Van Horn, first place; Zach Heskett, third place, Eric Smythe, eighth place; Jack Steele, 16th place;

The results for team members in the Yellowstone Rendezvous races, held on March 12:

5K Freestyle: Jack Steele, first in the 9 through 11-year old male division

25k Freestyle: Zach Heskett, second, 13-17-year-old male division

25K Classic: Mike Bestwick, first, 18 -24-year-old male division

Clare Miller: first, 13-17-year-old female division; Sierra McCartney, second in the 13-17-year-old female; Peter Van Horn, fourth,13-17-year-old male; Eric Smythe, fifth, 13 -17-year-old male division.

In addition to Glacier Nordic Team, Marti Bruce, daughter of the team's coaches, placed third in the 25k freestyle in the 18-24-year-old female division. In 25k Classic race, the father of Clare Miller, Marty Miller, placed fourth in the 40-4-year-old male division and Clare's uncle, John Miller, placed 11th in 45-49-year-old male division.
