Good Samaritan

To the editor,

We would like to personally recognize and thank the young man who initiated CPR on a man who went down at the casino at the Town Pump in Columbia Falls on Jan. 4.

His selfless efforts helped save the man's life. The entire staff at Three Rivers EMS applauds his efforts for he is a hero.

Cell phone use not safe

To the editor,

I am writing this letter in defense of my daughter and grandchildren. In the article regarding cell phone use by school bus drivers, Ms. Carol Duval stated the only reason Amy Weggeland wrote the letter complaining about cell phone use is because Ms. Duval had to reprimand my grandchildren for "bad behavior" on the bus.

This is totally false. The reason Amy wrote the letter is because my 11-year-old granddaughter rode Ms. Duval's bus to my home everyday after school, and nearly everyday complained about Ms. Duval's cell phone use while driving the bus.

Even an 11-year-old knows it is an unsafe practice. After being rear-ended at a stop sign in Kalispell by someone using a cell phone rather than paying attention to his driving, Amy decided to pursue the cell phone use by our school bus drivers.

She tried talking directly to Ms. Duval and was told she only used the phone for a few seconds at a time and had no intention of quitting. That is when Amy decided to pursue the issue further.

I also think that cell phone use by our school bus drivers is totally unacceptable and puts the lives of our children at risk.

I hope other parents and grandparents who feel the same will follow my daughter's lead and report cell phone use by a school bus driver to the school.
