The Wave's own volleyball team won the co-ed volleyball championship tournament at The Wave after taking second place in league play with a 6-3 record. Team members include Brynn Atcheson, Jeff Whiteside, Jason Kinley and Cindy Stanley. New leagues for women and co-ed volleyball will be forming in January. Members and non-members are welcome. Cost is $75-$100 per team. For more information, call 862-2444.

Dodgeball leagues are starting up Jan. 9 at The Wave, with six players on the court at a time. Pick-up teams are possible. There will be a men's league for 14 years and older, an adult co-ed league and a youth co-ed league. Youth games will be played Mondays through Fridays, 4-6 p.m. Adult games will be played Mondays, 6-10 p.m. Cost is $60 per team plus $5 for each non-member of The Wave. Junior goalkeeper Kevin Bostock helped lead Whitworth College's men's soccer team to an NCAA Division III final-four appearance and a final ranking of third in the nation in 2005. A 2003 graduate of Whitefish High School, Bostock overcame off-season knee surgery to finish the season with a 1.01 goals against average while posting four shutouts in 15 starts.

Jody Rucinski, a 2001 graduate of Whitefish High School, concluded an outstanding career at Whitworth by earning her third consecutive All-Northwest Conference honor. She was a first team All-NWC honoree after anchoring a Pirate defense that finished with a 1.00 goals-against average and allowed only 4.8 shots on goal per match. Rucinski had previously been selected as a first team All-NWC honoree in 2003 and on the second team in 2004.

The Lake Koocanusa Winter Rodeo Series continued Saturday night, with a record number of competitors from across Montana and Canada competing in bareback riding, calf roping, junior breakaway roping, saddle bronc, team roping, junior bull riding, junior barrel racing, open barrel racing and bull riding. Competitors from the Tobacco Valley, British Columbia, the Flathead Valley and other Montana cities like Polson, Stevensville, Cutbank and Browning held their own against stock from Brash Rodeo and Whitford Rodeo. The next rodeo will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 14. Future rodeos will be held on Jan. 28, Feb. 11, Feb. 25 and March 1.
