Whitefish Lake Lodge support

| August 18, 2005 11:00 PM

Regarding The Lodge at Whitefish Lake project, thank you to all the people who have called and expressed their support for our project on Whitefish Lake.

In light of some of the comments by naysayers, it is gratifying that so many people, most of whom I don't know personally, have taken the time to offer encouragement.

Please be assured that the Averill family will do everything possible to bring a quality project to the community of Whitefish. The Lodge at Whitefish Lake will be a facility of which you and your families can be proud. It will be a place where you and your friends will enjoy countless good times.

Thanks again for your support. We will do everything possible to maintain your good will.

Hall is no RINO

The letter from Dick Skees (Whitefish Pilot Aug. 11) which claims that Flathead County Commissioner Gary Hall is a RINO (Republican in name only) was so weird it must be answered.

From the viewpoint of a Republican activist in Flathead County since 1956 until my retirement from active politics in 2004, I can state with certainty that Gary Hall is a real Republican.

He was selected as a Republican candidate in a contested primary election and was elected to office in a contested general election. He has been in office for a while, and he has worked diligently at his job, applying common sense and conservative principles to his work. He is doing a good job, and the real Republicans are proud of him and his work.

As president of Republican Assembly, Inc., a Montana non-profit corporation, I assure you that Dick Skees does not speak for us or for the Republican Party. It is with colossal nerve that this newcomer to politics claims the right to determine who are Republicans.

If there are any RINOs around, this fellow qualifies for that title.

There are a few things that need to be said. First my thoughts and prayers go to Mr. Howard Sellers friends and family. Now he was a real good chief of police, and so was Chief LaBrie, and Whitefish needs to get that type of person back as chief of police.

And we need to keep Judge Johnson. I have never heard him be hostile to anyone. He may get a little mad or fed up with some of you that won't listen when he tries to tell you something and that is your own fault. He is not your baby sitter or parent. You are old enough to know better, and it is high time that everyone owns up to their own mistakes.

Now, for those of you who own dogs and let them run wild —when that happens, it is always a big chance that sooner or later a pack of dogs will form. Now this has already happened. A pack of dogs is way more dangerous then a pack of wolves. Wolves kill to eat and to protect their own; a pack of dogs just kill because they want to.

Now because the owners of four big dogs did not do their job, the owners have to know that they did wrong. And now those four, or maybe more by now, will have to live with the fact that now their dogs have to be destroyed.

These dogs can not be rehabilitated. And if you have children, beware because sooner or later they will attack children and adults. And because of the choice that was made to let them run, our animal warden or if it comes down to the safty of the public, they will have to be shot or put down in other ways.

Do not blame our officers or ranchers/farmers — they have a right to shoot any animal that can harm their stock. This is legal for them to do, and if that is not bad enough, you the owners of the dogs may be held responsible financially. So be a good and responsible dog owners and don't let them run free.
