Alberta Vasquez

Alberta Vasquez, 92, passed away March 26, 2005, at her home in Whitefish. Alberta lived in Eureka for many years and had many good friends there. She lived the last 20 years at the Whitefish Manor and was very happy there.

Alberta was born April 22, 1912, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to Modesto and Demetria Yanez. She came to the United States with her parents at age 9 and was raised in Rotan, Texas.

Alberta was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Whitefish.

She was preceded in death by her father, Modesto, in 1967; by her mother, Demetria, in 1992; her daughter, Andrea, in 1971; her brother, Thomas, in 2002; and her brother, Luther, in 2005.

She is survived by five brothers, Antonio, Salome, Lino, Modesto Jr. and Santos of Texas; two sisters, Ramona Sauseda and Estefana Gonzalez of Texas; five daughters, Marie Vasquez of Whitefish, Modesta Ramirez, Nettie Gamez and husband, Alfredo, of Arizona, Mary Cheevers and husband, Bill, of Thompson Falls, and Janie Fountain and husband, Michael, of Texas; three sons, Pedro Jr. and wife Vikki, Ramon and wife, Christi, of Whitefish, and Joe Terrazas and wife, Sharon, of Arizona; 31 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren locally, Jordan (Gordan), Kane, Kaitlyn, Dereck, Malachi, Willow and Ezekiel. She is also survived by more than 30 other great-grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Throughout her life, Alberta was a hard worker whose jobs ranged from picking cotton, sewing, cooking, and taking care of her family. In her earlier years, she attended dances and loved to sing. Alberta was a devout Catholic and she prayed the holy rosary faithfully for family, friends and neighbors on a daily basis. Her empathy for others was limitless and she often gave whatever she had to those in need.

By material standards, her possessions were modest, yet she felt she had riches beyond her expectations. Alberta led her life with a generosity towards others and taught her children and grandchildren by example. She leaves her family and friends with a legacy of kindness and love.

Mass of Christian burial was held Friday, April 1, at St. Charles Catholic Church, Whitefish, with committal following at Glacier Memorial Park in Kalispell.
