Soccer teams do well on the road, girls look solid

A little scare on a road trip was a good thing.

The Columbia Falls girls soccer team got one against Livingston last Friday, but then settled in to get their first two wins of the season.

Livingston took a 1-0 lead after scoring at the 15-minute mark.

"We didn't play the first 15 minutes," said coach Greg Trenerry. "I don't know if it was the ride or what. We were flat."

Park scored on a corner kick that the Kats didn't clear.

But after that, the girls "picked it up and figured it out," Trenerry said.

Lisa Carter scored in the 58th minute unassisted, then assisted Alona Raymond at the 67th minute to take the lead. Raymond dropped in another shot five minutes later to seal the win, 3-1.

Park had no shots in the second half as the Kats' defense crunched down on them.

"It was a pretty physical game," Trenerry said. "They played hard and kept going at it.

On Saturday, the Kats pounced on Belgrade, beating them 5-0, scoring four goals in the first half while out-shooting Belgrade 26-6 overall.

Trenerry said Belgrade was an aggressive physical team—the game was actually rougher than the Park match, but Belgrade didn't have the speed.

Alona Raymond started the scoring, dumping in a shot at the six minute mark after an assist from Jessica Boyer. Four minutes later, Carter dumped one in an assist from Amber Lampman, and then at the 18th minute Lampman dropped in a shot on an assist from Carla Appleton. At minute 24, Ashley Horine scored on an assist from Carter, and in the second half Carter scored 11 minutes in.

All 20 players saw action and frosh goalie Colyne Hislop got the shutout win.

The Kats now face Bigfork, which lost nine players after making it to the state tournament last year.

The game is at home Sept. 9 (today) starting at 3:30 p.m.
