Former resident needs Whitefish photos for dissertation

| July 28, 2004 11:00 PM

Do you have photographs, sketches, drawings, maps or other visuals depicting Whitefish? If so, would you be willing to share copies of them with a former resident for use in an instructional piece on Whitefish?

I am working on my doctoral dissertation at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. The goal is to determine if men and women of different ages learn differently when presented with visual instruction. The lesson I am creating for the study is on Whitefish. Why? Because it is unique, beautiful, and unfamiliar to most people in southeast Michigan. The problem is I need visuals, lots of them!

Plan A was to come and take pictures myself this summer. Unfortunately, returning to college has been rough on the budget, so that isn't possible. Plan B was to use photographs I have from the mid to late 1980s when my husband, children, and I lived in Whitefish. Unfortunately, the quality of those has declined quite a bit over the years so that plan has also been scrapped. Which brings me to Plan C, this cry for help. I am counting on the generosity of strangers, and perhaps even a few old friends we have lost touch with over the years. Is there anything in your old photo album that might be of help? A map, a sketch, anything? I assure you all images that are shared will not be used for anything other than my dissertation.

Please contact me at 586-822-6450 or 21372 Doepfer, Warren, MI 48091, if you have anything you think may be of help. I will of course cover any copying and shipping costs. Alternatively, digital images can be forwarded directly to me at n.b.hastings@comcast.net.
