Baucus' opposition of marriage amendment is disappointing

| July 23, 2004 11:00 PM

This is a letter I just sent to Montana Senator Max Baucus, someone who supposedly represents Montanans.

Dear Senator Baucus:

After writing to you asking why you opposed the Federal Marriage Amendment, receiving no response from you or your office, and after reviewing your recent vote against this amendment (http://capwiz.com/afanet/st_vote6127661.html), I write once again.

Senator, were you to look at the OVERWHELMING response by Montanans about how THEY feel about this issue (see www.montanafamily.org , Marriage Amendment, View Petition Status), and if you followed your mandate to REPRESENT THE PEOPLE (I quote from your Web site "As I represent our state in the 108th Congress, I do so with only one yardstick: What's right for Montana."), your stance and your vote on the Federal Marriage Amendment would have been different. Senator, I am more than disappointed in you. As an elected official it is your duty to represent those who elected you, not the will of special interest groups mostly from out of state. Due to your exceedingly poor perform of duty I will be e-mailing a copy of this letter to my friends, family, associates, Senator Burns, and several media organizations. I will also be verbally informing any who will listen regarding your poor representation of Montanans and what they believe.

Senator, doing what's right is not necessarily doing what's easy. Unfortunately, you chose the latter. I will not. You do NOT have my vote.
