Local decathlete competes in U.S. Olympic trials

| July 13, 2004 11:00 PM

On July 16th and 17th Bryan Anderson will be competing in the U.S. Olympic Trials in Sacramento, Calif.

Bryan is a 1997 graduate of Whitefish High School and a former state champion in the high jump, 300-meter hurdles and 1600-meter relay. Bryan went on to compete in track and field for the University of Montana, where he also graduated from last spring. At the U of M Bryan was the Big Sky Champion in the decathlon.

Bryan has been pursuing his dream of the qualifying for the Olympics since his graduation. Along with his coach, Brian Schwain, Bryan will be attending the trials in the middle of this month.

This letter is meant to inform all local sports fans that we will be able to watch one of our local athletes compete at the national level. We are also trying to help Bryan with some of the funding required to offset the costs of transportation for himself, his coach and all of his equipment. If anyone is interested in helping Bryan go for his dream, there has been an account established at the Whitefish Credit Union.

Thanks for your consideration and hopefully all area track and field fans will be able to tune in watch Bryan compete. Good luck Bryan.
