Stupid stings

To the editor,

My brother-in-law worked at a local convenience store for four years. He worked his way up to assistant manager. Now he is unemployed.

He has a wife and three children to support with no job thanks to these stupid alcohol sting operations. Flathead County Sheriff Jim Dupont is keeping these terrible convenience store clerks out of work.

Our children can get any kind of drug you can think of-and some I've never heard of-at our high schools.

Mr. Dupont, maybe you could put some attention into the on-going meth problem here in the valley. Oh yeah, but then some 20-year-old man may be able to drink a beer.

Keep up the good work, Jim.

Can't we all get along?

To the editor,

It is disturbing to see individuals criticized by name for their personal views. It is one thing to question the policies of elected officials but quite another to publicly censure private citizens in an attempt to silence them.

If readers have differing views, then share them openly but do it without faulting others by name. We are fortunate to have a constitution that protects our rights of expression; now let's show some civility.

To the editor,

Donald Sullivan's letter to the editor in the Dec. 16 issue ("Not in my Valley") accomplished precisely what he claims to abhor - lack of tolerance and hateful rhetoric.

I reviewed my recent letters responding to Larry Wilson's comments looking for vitriol and inflammatory statements but was unable to substantiate Sullivan's opinion.

Sullivan apparently believes opposition to those who want it all their way is intolerant and disrespectful.

Well, I would like to remind Sullivan of a statement he made to me back when paving the North Fork Road was a front-burner issue, and I quote: "Paving the North Fork Road will be over my dead body."

I find it difficult to find much tolerance in that statement.
