Weed control a civic duty

| August 25, 2004 11:00 PM

To the editor,

Mr. Fledderman, I'm sorry that your "fixed income" makes it too difficult for you to maintain your own yard and, in particular, the weeds in it.

However, sir, nice gesture as it may be if some neighbor was to take on your responsibility by killing your weeds for you, it's not up to any neighbor to do this—they have their own properties to tend to.

And besides, by the tone of your letter, I get the impression that what you are really telling the community is that they all can just go to hell if they don't like (your) weeds.

You, sir, have an attitude problem, not a lack funds I'm sure. A very few bucks would be all that's required, and some spunk on your part starting in May to do your duty as a responsible property owner and citizen of Columbia Falls.

We all must be diligent in not only taking care of our dandelions, but also in fighting one of Montana's other scourges—knapweed.

And a little Curtail, Hi-Dep or common Weed-B-Gone used in mid-summer after a good soaker will kill it and not harm your grass —if you care about your grass.

It's high time, Mr. Fledderman, that you get with the program and quit blaming others for your own short comings.

And by the way, as a person also on Social Security and a "fixed" income and a former resident of the Columbia Falls area, I speak with some degree authority on this subject.
