Whitefish Theatre Company airs Met Live’s ‘Il Barbiere di Siviglia’
Whitefish Theatre Company will air “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” (“The Barber of Seville”) as the final opera in the 2024-2025 live streaming season of the Metropolitan Opera Live in HD.
Gioachino Rossini’s effervescent comedy will be shown on Saturday, May 31, at 11 a.m. at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center. Approximate run time is 3 hours and 35 minutes with one intermission. Tickets are sold only at the door, which will open at 10:30 a.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students, paid by cash or check only.
Sung in Italian with subtitles, “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” tells the story of deception, disguise and two young lovers on a quest to be together. In Act I, Count Almaviva, disguised as student ‘Lindoro’, arrives to serenade a young girl with whom he has become smitten.
Giacomo Sagripanti conducts Bartlett Sher’s madcap production. Mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina headlines a winning ensemble as the feisty heroine, Rosina, alongside high-flying tenor Jack Swanson, in his Met debut, as her secret beloved, Count Almaviva. Baritone Andrey Zhilikhovsky stars as Figaro, the titular barber of Seville, with bass-baritone Peter Kálmán as Dr. Bartolo and bass Alexander Vinogradov as Don Basilio rounding out the principal cast.
