Whitefish track stars shine at ABC Meet

Whitefish athletes delivered a strong showing at the Nelson-Thomas ABC Meet on Saturday, May 10, turning in several top-three finishes in a competitive field that featured teams from the region.

Rachael Wilmot continued her stellar season with two victories in the sprints, clocking 12.64 seconds to win the 100-meter dash and a season-best 25.10 to capture the 200-meter title. Wilmot also anchored the Bulldogs’ 4x400 relay team to a fourth-place finish alongside teammates Ginger Bergland, Stella Frisbee and Mila Maddock (4:20.55).

In the distance events, Simon Douglas dominated the boys 1600 meters, cruising to a win in 4:19.89. Preston McPherson followed suit in the 800 meters with a victory in 2:00.43 and teamed up with Colby Minton, Scott Schram and Ethan Amick to lead Whitefish to first place in the 4x400 relay (3:26.31).

Ethan Amick also grabbed third place in the 400 meters with a time of 52.57.

In the hurdles, freshman Ginger Bergland placed fourth in the girls 100-meter hurdles (17.13) and secured second in the 300-meter hurdles (46.52). On the JV side, Margaret Zonich was third in the 100 hurdles (19.88), and Olga Abramchuk claimed second in the 300 hurdles (56.45).

Whitefish’s sprinters also had a strong showing in the junior varsity 200 meters, with Cooper Akey and Scott Schram going 2-3 in the boys race (24.43 and 24.49, respectively), while Clair Easterley (30.37) and Savy Evans (30.81) finished in the top 15 in the girls race.

In the field, Anderson Barrile earned fifth in the boys shot put with a toss of 45 feet, 3 inches. On the girls side, Sol Holmquist placed second in the JV shot put (27-10.75) and also took 10th in the varsity discus (85-11.5). Braylon Dunn earned 10th in the boys varsity discus (132-3) and fifth in JV javelin (123-6).

Carson Gulick tied for fourth in the boys high jump (5-10), while Margaret Zonich cleared 4-10 to place second in the varsity girls event. In the junior varsity pole vault, Megan Amick placed third with a clearance of 7-6.

In jumps, Chantry Krack leapt 32-10.5 to earn seventh in the varsity triple jump, while Olga Abramchuk won the girls JV long jump with a mark of 13-7.5. Joseph Nimmo also placed 12th in the JV boys long jump (15-10.25).

The Bulldogs’ relay teams were in form throughout the meet. The varsity boys 4x100 squad of Colby Minton, Scott Dalen, Riley Zetooney and Ethan Amick placed fifth (44.79). The JV girls 4x100 team of Megan Amick, Grace Inabnit, Arnica Beale and Ali Grube took fourth (54.23).


Whitefish athletes shine at home in Last Chance Quad

Whitefish High School track and field athletes turned in an impressive slate of performances during the Last Chance Quad meet on May 8, earning numerous top-three finishes across sprinting, distance, relay and field events.

Senior Riley Zetooney led the way with a win in the boys 100 meters, clocking 11.48 seconds. He was followed by teammate Bodee Hanson, who finished third in 11.57. Whitefish dominated the sprints with Colby Minton taking first in the 200 (23.17), while Simon Douglas claimed the 400 title in a personal-best 51.54.

The Bulldogs swept both boys relay events, winning the 4x100 in 43.99 and the 4x400 in 3:38.49. Relay team members included Minton, Hanson, Zetooney, Preston McPherson, Douglas, Ethan Amick and Scott Dalen.

In hurdles, Carson Gulick won the boys 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.88. Anderson Barrile took first in shot put at 43 feet, while freshman Braylon Dunn won the discus with a throw of 129-2.

Whitefish also picked up victories in the pole vault, where Bodee Hanson and Cameron Diehl each cleared 11-6 to tie for second. Ethan Amick took third in the long jump (17-10.25), and Cooper Akey finished fourth in the triple jump (35-9).

On the girls side, Rachael Wilmot captured the 100 meters in 12.66, followed closely by freshman Ginger Bergland in second (13.08). Bergland later won the 200 meters in a personal-best 26.78.

In relays, the Lady Bulldogs swept both events, winning the 4x100 (53.41) and 4x400 (4:20.11). Whitefish also had top finishes in field events, with Sol Holmquist winning discus (92-7) and javelin (101-8), and Grace Sliman clearing 5-0 to win high jump.

Claire Easterley placed third in the 300-meter hurdles, while Margaret Zonich took third in the high jump and Sol Holmquist added a fifth-place in shot put.
