Makerspace opens house at Uptown Hearth

| May 8, 2025 9:25 AM

After a year and a half of hard work and community collaboration, The Making Place is excited to announce the grand opening of its makerspace next month on June 1.

Located on the third floor of Uptown Hearth, this new community hub will provide the space and resources for people to gather, share ideas and work on projects together.

The Making Place’s official opening will mark a milestone in the organization’s main goal: to create a makerspace. A makerspace is a shared workspace designed for people to use tools, equipment and resources to bring their creative projects to life. Much like a gym, a makerspace fosters a sense of community through shared equipment and knowledge.

The Making Place aims to create a public space for the community to create, share and learn together by providing three key services: hands-on workshops and classes, a tool library and a communal workspace. The Making Place’s location will feature worktables, easels, a wash station and a variety of tools for printmaking, sewing, 3D printing and more. Members will have access to the space to share resources, learn new skills and work on their projects.

To celebrate their opening, The Making Place invites the community to join for an open house event on Friday, May 16, from 4-8 p.m. at 619 Nucleus Ave. in Columbia Falls. The event will include live music, local food and wine, and hands-on creative activities.
