Whitefish baseball racks up two more wins
The Whitefish baseball team continued its strong season with a pair of home wins last week, defeating Ronan 6-1 on Thursday and overwhelming Plains-Hot Springs 17-2 on Monday. With the victories, the Bulldogs improved to 11-2 on the season.
On Thursday, Whitefish relied on efficient pitching and a big fourth inning to secure the win over visiting Ronan. The Bulldogs plated two runs in the first inning and broke the game open with four more in the fourth. That was more than enough support for starting pitcher Logan Stewart, who struck out seven over four innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits. Bear Barker took over in relief and tossed three scoreless frames, scattering three hits and striking out four.
Tait Orme led the offense with a double and an RBI, while Ryan Conklin and Luke Dalen also chipped in with base hits. Finn Ryan added an RBI, and the Bulldogs took advantage of Ronan’s defensive miscues to generate scoring opportunities.
Whitefish was even more dominant on Monday in a three-inning rout of Plains-Hot Springs, racking up 11 hits and scoring 17 runs while committing no errors in the field.
After giving up two early runs in the top of the first, the Bulldogs exploded for nine in the bottom half of the inning and tacked on eight more in the second. The offensive barrage featured extra-base hits from multiple players, including a triple by Finn Ryan and doubles from Calvin Eisenbarth and Orme.
Orme and Luke Dalen both went 2-for-2 at the plate, each driving in two runs. Reyd Hobart and Drew Queen also collected two RBIs apiece, and every batter in the lineup reached base.
On the mound, Reed Boyer earned the win with two innings of work, giving up two runs on two hits while striking out four. Sam Akey closed it out with a perfect third inning, fanning two.
