Marcia Lee Litchfield, 78

Marcia Lee Litchfield, 78, of Whitefish passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, after a brief battle with ALS.

Marcia was born on March 28, 1947, in Boulder, Colorado, to Herbert and Bobbie Westfall. She grew up in Bellevue, Washington, and graduated from Bellevue High School in 1965. She went on to attend the University of Montana, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation in 1969.

While at the University of Montana, Marcia met her first husband, Robert Starks. Together they had two daughters, Terri Lynn and Holly Jeanne. After a brief career in education as a teacher, Marcia began a long and dedicated career with the U.S. Postal Service, where she worked for 36 years and eventually retired as the postmistress of the Whitefish Post Office.

During her time at the post office, she met her second husband and the love of her life, Robert Litchfield. Together they shared 32 wonderful years filled with skiing, golfing, traveling (especially to Hawaii), cheering on the Griz, and spending cherished time at their orchard and lake cabin with family and friends.

Marcia was a tireless community volunteer. She was involved with the Pilot Club, Soroptimist International, CASA, United Way, Shepherd’s Hand, and Glacier National Park, where she served as a backcountry ranger. She also volunteered as an Ambassador for Big Mountain. An avid hiker, Marcia was part of a hiking group for over 20 years. She was passionate about the outdoors and always ready for adventure. She also enjoyed quilting and participating in her book club, and she shared these passions generously with her children, grandchildren, and friends.

Marcia is survived by her sister, Betty Westfall; daughters, Terri and Holly (Chris); and stepdaughter, Nikki. 

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Nicole, Cassandra, Quintin, Spencer, Aiden, Kyler, Samuel, and Jameson; and great-grandchildren, Brayden, Monica, Ember, and Frankie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herb and Bobbie Westfall, and her beloved husband, Robert Litchfield.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Glacier National Park Conservancy (www.glacier.org) or Soroptimist International of Whitefish in her name.
